Green Schools

The Green Schools committee aims to change the way that we conceptualize the role and design of schools.  They are not only places for intellectual and social growth, but truly exist as second homes for the 60 million young students, faculty, and staff that occupy them every day. 

Our challenge is to work with school leaders and communities, to spread awareness and knowledge of the benefits of going green - whether it is for new buildings, renovations, upgrades, operations or maintenance.  Through the implementation of green building practices and principles, we have the opportunity to create healthier, more energy efficient environments with demonstrated cost benefit savings.

Our efforts are focused into four major categories:

1. Outreach to K-12 school administrators and parents
2. Outreach to K-12 students and clubs
3. Green curriculum for K-12 schools
4. Outreach to higher education institutions

The variety of our committee’s membership allows us to offer a variety of resources to the school communities.  We welcome you to join our committee and offer your unique perspective.  Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 5:30pm in Bohemia.  If you are interested in attending, please email greenschools@usgbc-li.org and we will send you more information.
